Breast Cancer Survivors

Breast Cancer survivors share their stories
and best tips on how to feel great
through your cancer journey.

Hi! My name is Janet Cheeseman and
I'm a breast cancer survivor.

It's an honour to be able to share my personal story on survival with you.

This photo, with my husband Don, was taken a few years ago when we were on holiday in Croatia. It reminds me of the wonderful support that he gave me throughout my cancer journey - and how important it is to have the support of
one's friends, family and faith.

As a breast cancer survivor, I empathise with what you may be going through - the anxiety, the sleepless nights, the absolute disbelief that this is actually happening to you.

Surely cancer is something that happens to OTHER people, not to you and me. Sadly, the incidence of this disease is increasing dramatically, and showing up more in much younger women.

That being said, I put this breast cancer website together to focus on the POSITIVE side of WELLNESS so you, also, will be a wonderful survivor (like me and Happy Jennifer ) who will keep feeling strong, healthy and optimistic throughout your cancer journey.

From my own experience and research I believe that the advice and tips you'll find here will work as well for YOU, ensuring faster healing, a heightened sense of well-being and a brighter outcome.

Here is my story....

After watching my mother suffer for 8 years with breast cancer before she died, I was determined not to depart this earth the same way. So, every year for 12 years I had a mammogram. And every year I passed with flying colours.

Complacency set in. That was until that fateful day when things didn't go as usual. The radiographer suggested that he do an ultrasound as a 'double-check' after reviewing one of my x-rays.

After the ultrasound, he then requested a biopsy.

I was still unconcerned, as I had endured many a biopsy on cysts in my breasts - cysts which were then simply aspirated.

This time was different. No aspiration. A solid tumour.

So, when his nurse held my hand and reassured me that 'she was there for me' my heart sank like a stone and my eyes welled with tears.

'Why me!' I cried silently, with the image of my dear mother's funeral appearing before me.

After my initial shock and anger with this diagnosis of breast cancer, I decided to take a pro-active role in regaining my health as quickly as I could.

Whilst the oncologists and surgeons brought out 'the big guns' to attack the cancer cells, I focused on keeping my healthy cells healthier!

This is when I threw myself into researching complementary medicine and its use in treating and preventing breast cancer.

Note, I said 'complementary' rather than 'alternative' medicine, as I still believe that advanced medical intervention has a powerful role to play in dealing with cancer.

During my research on the internet I came across Dr Ray Strand , a General Practitioner who specialises in Nutritional Medicine. (Dr Strand's website opens in a new window).

This medical doctor published an excellent (and somewhat controversial) article on the use of high-potency antioxidants in conjunction with cancer therapies, as well as a recommended regime of the specific nutritional supplements that he had found to be effective in helping his own breast cancer patients.

It was EXACTLY what I was looking for!

I hasten to add, the supplements Dr Strand uses and recommends are not the cheapest vitamins on the market. But, I am convinced they are the best! It's more expensive to buy supplements that don't work, or don't dissolve in the body and go straight through into the toilet bowl. That's what I call EXPENSIVE!

I took the advice not to sell my health to the lowest bidder!

In summary, I sailed through my cancer therapies with no fatigue or loss of energy.

The radiation oncologist warned me that I would feel extremely lethargic in the afternoons, and if we had visitors I should politely excuse myself as I would need to lie down and sleep.

Well, was he wrong!

I felt energetic, optimistic and positive. And I jokingly said to my husband that I could even manage the housework at midnight (if ever I did such a thing!)

Learn about the specific nutritional supplements that made such a positive difference to my energy levels.

It's been almost eight years now since my two breast cancer operations (a lumpectomy for a very aggressive tumour situated deep against the chest wall, which had to be followed up a week later with another operation to check that the lymph nodes were clear).

It's good to report that I am feeling better than ever!

I have continued on my nutritional program to maintain optimal health and wellbeing, and to prevent the onset of any other degenerative disease, including a recurrence of the dreaded 'C' word.

It's great to be alive. And what I wish for you, too, is to be able to live life to the fullest in happiness and health!

What else you can do to make a positive difference in your healing:

Feeling great and looking good becomes very important when you are facing some trying times.

What I did (and I can't recommend this highly enough) was to seek out the purest and best skin care I could find - one that is absolutely safe for cancer patients (a skin care that didn't have any toxic preservatives). When I learnt that whatever you put on your skin goes straight into the bloodstream I realised how important it is (particularly for cancer patients) to only use products that are not harmful for human cells.

If you can present a lovely face to the world, it makes you feel so much better!

Another important recommendation is that we must start eating healthier for Breast Cancer Wellness by modifying our diets to a more alkaline diet 'Breast Cancer Diet' (cancer cannot survive in an alkaline environment). It's not hard, but one must be diligent in increasing our intake of fruits and vegetables including juices.

An investment in a water-distiller to ensure that the water we drink is pure and free of toxins and chemicals is a very good investment in your health.

A friend sent me a great recipe for a Breast Cancer Herbal Treatment - a healing herbal tea called ESSIAC that is reported to extremely beneficial for cancer patients. It is a special herbal tea that tastes surprisingly pleasant, and I certainly felt good on it. (Don spent ages making it for me, the wonderful husband that he is!)

Another thing I did and that you should seriously consider - gentle exercising and relaxation techniques. Avoid negative people, news and movies. Maintain a happy positive outlook by reading happy books and funny movies.

Thinking positive is so important!

My wish for you is optimal health and a wonderful, bright outcome.

Please contact me if you have any queries or would like to share your story or tips for wellness.

All the best!
Janet Cheeseman
