Essiac Tea for Breast Cancer Wellness
A natural, herbal brew with great healing powers.
Believe it or not, Essiac Tea has been around since the 1920's and has won over many skeptics who now consider this herbal brew can cure cancers.
Let me say right upfront - I am not prepared to use the word 'cure' - but I do believe ESSIAC TEA was most beneficial in helping me recover well from Breast Cancer. Besides, this was something positive that I could do for myself, in addition to undergoing conventional treatments. I certainly wouldn't advocate anything as an ALTERNATIVE Breast Cancer therapy - but I was keen to take advantage of COMPLEMENTARY medicine with my oncologist's knowledge. For example, When I asked him if there was any reason why I should NOT take high-potency nutritional supplements, for example, he replied that he didn't care what I did as long as I complied with his treatment regime (surgery, chemo and radiotherapy).
So back to my ESSIAC TEA story:
You know what it's like. As soon as your friends learn of your Breast Cancer diagnosis, they send you stacks of information on everything they think may be of help, from positive thinking to shark cartilage and almond kernels. Rather than dismissing these unconventional therapies, I evaluated each one on its merits. One particular well-read friend had sent me information on ESSIAC. And it caught my attention. It has an interesting, and at times, turbulent history. In 1923 a Canadian nurse, Rene Caisse, observed that one of her doctor's patients, a woman with terminal cancer, made a complete recovery. Rene found that the woman had used a herbal remedy given to her by an Ojibway Indian 'medicine man' who gladly passed on the herbal formula to Rene. The recipe originally consisted of just four common herbs - Sheep Sorrel, Burdock Root, Slippery Elm Bark and Rhubarb Root, but was later expanded with the inclusion of Blessed Thistle, Kelp, Red Clover and Watercress to make it even more potent. Note - The name of the tea is Rene's surname 'Caisse' spelled backwards. With her doctor's permission, Nurse Rene began to administer the herbal remedy to other cancer patients, with remarkable success. However, the Canadian medical establishment did not take kindly to this nurse administering the remedy directly to anyone with cancer who requested her help. But word spread, and Rene Caisse became famous. In 1937 the Royal Cancer Commission conducted hearings about Essiac, and 55,000 signatures were collected on a petition to present to the Canadian Parliament to help pass a vote to legalise its use. Incredibly, Essiac failed by just 3 votes to be approved as an officially sanctioned cure for cancer. The complete story of Rene Caisse's life and struggles is told in a book "The Calling Of An Angel" written by Dr Gary Glum.
How did I use ESSIAC tea?
Every morning my dear husband Don brought me a nice hot cup of Essiac tea in bed. He brewed it for me, following the special recipe delivered with the herbs. It's not difficult or too time-consuming to brew the Tea using the powdered herb mix. But you need to stock up on some amber glass bottles. These bottles are traditionally used to protect the tea from the degenerative effects of light on herbs. Don jumped at the opportunity to help out here,by emptying a crate of small beer bottles to get the amber glass bottles for 'free'. Aren't husbands ingenious! How did it taste? Surprisingly pleasant! I quite enjoyed the flavour and really looked forward to that cuppa in bed each morning, brought to me by Don. The actual activity surrounding the preparation of the tea and the serving of it, was very positive. Don and I both felt we were taking a pro-active role in improving my health and outcome.
One of the best resources on ESSIAC that I have found online is here.
And it's a great place to read all the other therapeutic benefits of this famous herbal tea.
