Pawpaw Ointment

How Pawpaw Ointment soothes the skin during Breast Cancer Radiotherapy

Pawpaw Ointment turned out to be a real blessing to me and other Breast Cancer survivors. And, to my way of thinking, this humble skincare treatment doesn't get the accolades it deserves.

Radiation can affect the skin like suffering a severe sunburn. Skin can get red and tender, peeling and itching.

So, when another Breast Cancer survivor passed on this great tip, I was delighted.

Although the medical staff at the radiation clinic suggested I use a petroleum-based lotion, I did some of my own research and made the decision to go with Pawpaw.

Pawpaw or Papaya we all know as a delicious fruit, but the beneficial qualites of it greatly aid the skin.

The medicinal properties have been known for years, but science is now in a position to explain why this triopical fruit is so rich in healing qualities.

It is rich in an enzyme called papain. This enzyme has softening and distingrating qualities that are ideal for the treatment of dry, cracked and irritated skin - and heat rashes (ie. radiotherapy burns).

The ointment is chemical-free and contains the fresh fermented fruit in a base of vegetable waxes, beeswax and vegetable oils (no petroleum ingredients).

Just a caution though - this Ointment is quite gunky - like a thick yellow unguent. So as soon as you apply it, which should be every day immediately after your radiation treatment, use a soft facial tissue to cover it before donning your bra. (A good excuse to buy a pretty coloured bra, rather than white one!)

Another great thing - this stuff is remarkably inexpensive!

I bought a big tub of it at the local health store for under $15. Or, you can buy it online.

Other uses for Pawpaw cream include the treatment of corns, warts, eczema, nappy rash, bee and wasp stings, and mild psoriasis. A worthwhile inclusion for your bathroom cabinet at home.
