Parabens and Skin Care

The bad and the ugly of Parabens.
(There is nothing good about them
when it comes to Breast Cancer Wellness!)

When it comes to choosing skin care, are Parabens so scary?

If you have Breast Cancer or want to avoid Breast Cancer, it would certainly be most prudent to avoid all the skin care, shampoos and cosmetics that use Parabens as a preservative.

But don't take my word for it. If you have a spare hour or two, do an internet search on Parabens - and strap on your seat belt!

There is an overwhelming amount of information about these toxic chemical preservatives.

Just about everything I discovered about Parabens is scary enough to advise everyone I care about to avoid all the skin-care and cosmetic manufacturers that use Parabens in their products.

Pretty frigthening was an article published in the Journal of Applied Toxicology that cast doubt on the safety of Parabens, and especially their potential role in the development of some types of Breast Cancers.

It has been known for some time that Parabens can mimic the effect of estrogen and were found to be present in the cancerous tumours of human Breast Cancer patients. Significantly, it was noted that these Parabens were absorbed through the skin, not taken orally.

Another article described a report on the testing of live cells for oxidative stress, toxicity, DNA damanage and inflammatory response. The Paraben research results concluded that Parabens did not cause inflammation as such, but created intense oxidative stress and severe DNA damage.

As you know, damaged DNA still replicates, and when combined with oxidative stress which creates intense damage in the cell, abnormalities in cell reproduction occur.

This is where cancerous cells are formed.

So how can you tell if there are Parabens or not?

How can you be sure if the skin care, shampoos and cosmetics have Parabens as a preservative to extend their shelf-life?

Read the labels. All manufacturers are by law required to disclose full ingredient lists on their labels.

If the skin care you're considering doesn't have ingredients listed, or you can't find the preservative in the list, be wary.

Put it back on the shelf.

For your health's sake, choose only beauty products that are pure and free of dangerous Parabens.

I've done a lot of research into sourcing a skin care range that is pure, without any Parabens. In fact, the skin care range I use and recommend to all my friends was awarded a world-patent for its unique self-preserving technology. This means that the ingredients themselves are the preservatives - healthy ingredients such as botanicals and antioxidants, green tea and the like. Nothing to harm the skin. Only to nourish it.
